Plant Description:
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a tropical perennial in the ginger family. Native to the Indian subcontinent, Turmeric produces underground rhizomes that has been used for millennia for culinary and medicinal purposes. Typically reaching a height of 1 to 1.5 meters, the rhizomes are ready for harvest in the same winter, if planted early spring. A great addition to the understory of a food forest.

Growing Instructions
Sunlight: Turmeric prefers full sun/partial shade.
Temperature: Optimal temperature range is above 10°C. Turmeric is a perrienial, sensitive to frost and will die back in the winter.
Watering: Regular watering is necessary during the active growing period to encourage adequate rhizome development, ensure compost is applied to soil to boost fertility.
